There is a song I love and one of the lines in the song says “Sin was strong but Jesus is stronger”. In the world we live in today, we are constantly surrounded by distractions and temptations that lead us further and further away from God. Today, I want to list some facts about the enemy so we can better see his tactics and we can better prepare to stand strong.
First off, there are some views people have of the enemy that just are not true— For instance, he is not all powerful, he is not omnipresent, and he is not omniscient. One of his greatest weaknesses is the fact that he can not see what can come out of a forgiving God.
Satan’s tricks are pretty easy to spot because he is not creative in the slightest. He will come as something that has no threat, for instance, a limbless snake (which all though I am now terrified of snakes, at the time it had no threat). He will come as something attractive or easy to give in to. He brings doubt and will always lie, twist the truth, and twist the character of God. He tempts in our places of weakness— he can’t see the future but he can see the past and he knows where we failed before and he will tempt us there again. He comes to kill, still, and destroy, and him destroying our lives brings him so much joy. He is a devourer—
“Be sober minded; be watchful. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
and our defense against the enemy CAN NOT be found in our strength alone but by resisting in faith that God will sustain us and give us the strength we need.
Yes, sin is strong. Yes, it is extremely difficult not to fail when we are tempted at our weakest areas. But y’all, we must realize something, sin and death have already been defeated. Like Kari Jobe would sing “death where is your sing?” We are secure in Jesus. Jesus is stronger than our struggles, than our failures, than our past, and stronger than anything our future holds. We are loved by an all powerful, omnipresent, omniscient, and forgiving God. He sees the big picture, He sees what forgiveness can do, He has already won. Do not fear, do not feel shame, do not feel unworthy, do not feel unloved because none of those things are of God and incase the enemy has already ruined your view on God’s character— this is what He says about you.
“You have no reason to fear, I am with you. You are forgiven. You are loved. You are strong in me. You are beautiful. You are worthy, You are valued. You are incredible. You are mine.”
Don’t fall into the enemies traps— Find peace and be confident in the fact that you are secure in Jesus
